Reportedly, LeRoi Jones wrote to James Wright with a question in jest (a jestion) regarding the last lines of Wright’s poem “From a Bus Window in Central Ohio, Just Before a Thunder Shower” (the last lines being: “And calls a hundred black-and-white Holsteins/ From the clover field.”):

“How did you know there were a hundred Holsteins?”  he asked.

On a post-card, Wright jotted his response and mailed it off:

“I counted the tits and divided by four.”
